Valpak Consulting has a team of qualified Life Cycle Assessment
(LCA) and carbon footprinting practitioners, who are experienced users of specialist
software WRATE and SimaPro. The team have a particular interest in footprinting
fast moving consumer goods and if desired, this can be conducted following the guidelines
of PAS 2050.
Having worked in the field of LCA for some years, Valpak Consulting
have been following the development of the PAS 2050 closely and have been directly
consulting with the Carbon Trust, Coca-Cola and WRAP on the content of the specification.
As such we have a good grasp of the requirements of the PAS and combined with our
LCA knowledge and experience, are in an excellent position to conduct carbon footprints
to the specification.
Step 1: Define goals and scope of LCA/footprint
Step 2:
Primary data collection
Step 3: Model building in WRATE or SimaPro
and use of supplementary secondary data
Step 4: Assessment & interpretation
of environmental impacts
Step 5: Production of carbon/environmental
impact reduction plan
Publicly Available Specification (PAS) 2050 has been
developed by the British Standards Institution (BSI) and co-sponsored by
the Carbon Trust and Defra. It was launched in October 2008 and is designed
to be used to 'specify requirements for assessing life cycle greenhouse
gas emissions (GHG) of goods and services'. Whilst being based on standard
LCA methodology, it offers a more prescriptive approach to product carbon
footprinting that enables a standardisation across footprints.
