Pro Europe is an umbrella organisation of national compliance schemes responsible for the recovery and recycling of household packaging waste in Europe. They use the Green Dot® as a financing symbol.

The international Green Dot® trademark is held by Pro Europe s. p. r. l. The Green Dot® trademark is increasingly establishing itself as a uniform European trademark. More than 460 billion pieces of packaging marked with the Green Dot® are distributed worldwide. The Green Dot® trademark is protected in more than 170 countries. Pro Europe, which is domiciled in Brussels, was founded to avoid trade barriers in the implementation of the European Packaging Directive 94/62/EC from the very beginning. The primary task of Pro Europe is to award the mark to qualified organisations and to establish it as a European trademark.

In 1996, System Deutschland AG granted Pro Europe the right to use the trade mark in the form of a general licence for the entire territory of the European Union, the European Economic Area and countries wishing to join the EU, with the exception of the Federal Republic of Germany. Pro Europe subsequently concluded main licence contracts governing the use of the trademark in the respective country with the organisations listed on the Green Dot® in Europe page.
